8th March 2019 marks the 150th anniversary of Hector Berlioz’s death. This release of ‘Symphonie Fantastique, Op. 14, H48’ is a debut recording for the Orchestre De Paris, recorded in 1967. ‘Symphonique Fantastique’ is thought of as an important piece of romantic program music that tells the story of an opium addicted artist buried in despair and hopelessness after being rejected by love. It is believed that Berlioz was inspired by his real life rejection and subsequently went on to write this symphony.
